De Bijenkorf celebrate human creativity in all its forms, with seven stores across the Netherlands and digital platforms that blur the boundaries between commerce, art and culture.

More than a department store, de Bijenkorf is a celebration of art, design, and innovation. Founded in 1870 as a modest haberdashery on the Nieuwendijk in Amsterdam, the store grew to occupy a central position in Dam Square and immediately established itself as a new kind of shopping experience. Over the last 150 years, de Bijenkorf has opened stores across the Netherlands, each one with its own unique architecture and distinct character. Blurring the boundaries between commerce and culture, its windows have played host to award-winning displays and product launches, but also to novelists, contemporary artists, theatre troupes and ballet dancers.

With seven stores across the Netherlands, de Bijenkorf has stayed true to its innovative origins and — joining Selfridges Group in 2011 — continues to surprise and inspire with its curated range of fashion, design and beauty brands, and its unique commitment to creative culture.
